About the Position:
The College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) is committed to educating engineers and computer scientists who will graduate with state-of-the art knowledge in their chosen field and are ready to embark on careers in industry and government, or proceed to acquire advanced degrees in their own or related fields. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the College International Advisor (Student Services Professional II). The College International Student Advisor provides mission-driven support for international students by serving as a resource and liaison between various campus constituencies including colleges, departments, faculty, staff, and students that are committed to international undergraduate and graduate student success. The College International Advisor works in collaboration with the Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS), ECS Student Success Team, and various units on campus, including Office of Academic Programs and Office of Extension, Office of Registration and Records, and International Programs, to deliver integrated international services and programming. Designs and coordinates programs that promote access, engagement, and retention, while enriching the academic environment and enhancing student development. Serves as an advisor for all international undergraduate and graduate students, advising newly admitted and continuing students regarding general university policies and procedures. Advises international students on, or at risk of, academic probation. Coordinates and assists with internships and internship course. Supports graduate orientation, recruitment, and retention programs. Works with the Office of International Students Services to provide support for international students to comply with University requirements. Responsible for updating and tracking student advising communications each semester. Assists the Associate Dean and Department Chairs with issues pertaining to schedule conflicts, grading issues, and degree requirements. Serves as a member of the ECS Student Success Team. Other duties as assigned by the college dean's office.
Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field. A masters degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management, research, and interview techniques. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews, and advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to reason logically and use initiative in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and of the overall organization.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
