Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; this is a temporary position to end on or before June 30, 2023 with a possibility of renewal on an annual basis if funds and/or program needs exist.

About the Position:

Facilities Management is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high quality learning and working environment for the campus community. Facilities Management provides oversight of university resources and assets and is responsible for the development of the University's facilities including land use planning, capital improvement, project development, construction, as well as facilities operations and maintenance including custodial services, landscape services, building trade services, mechanical and electrical, and recycling services. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our Landscape Services team as the Light Automotive Equipment Operator. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under general supervision of the Landscape Services Manager for Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM), the Light Automotive Equipment Operator provides general gardening/landscape maintenance services to campus grounds and assist in parking lot landscape maintenance. Operates and maintains riding lawn mowers and tractors, backhoes, skip loaders, trenchers, and similar equipment. Operates street sweeper in parking lots and parking structures. Performs minor adjustments and repairs on motorized equipment. Operates trucks, utility carts, dump trucks, forklifts and pick-up trucks with lift gates to load, move and unload equipment or materials. Operates pressure washing machine for areas as directed and as required for campus beautification and periodic cleaning of areas of typical usage by campus population. Pressure washing will include use of steam and other equipment/methods for heavily stained areas.

This position is highly safety conscious, works in accordance with established safety procedures, is disciplined in proper use of PPE, and maintains a safe and clean work environment. A Light Automotive Equipment Operator offers excellent customer service and is always courteous to campus customers while maintaining records and data related to work performed using computerized record-keeping systems. An employee best suited for this role is one who is defined by their dedication to the quality of their work, dependability, and reliability.

Essential Qualifications:
Equivalent to one year of paid or regularly assigned driving experience in a job involving operating a delivery vehicle, truck, tractor, bus, or automotive maintenance equipment; Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance procedures of equipment used in landscape maintenance; Knowledge of the rules of safe driving; Skill in operating riding mowers, tractors, small motorized equipment; large turf equipment, skip loader and forklift, up to 3000 lb. capacity; Ability and specialized skills to operate equipment safely, recognize hazards and follow practices and laws to ensure safety and follow manuals and guidelines pertaining to operation of State vehicles; Skill to load and unload vehicles correctly and safety; Ability to service and make routine repairs on equipment; Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Excellent customer service skills. Skill in using a computer to check and enter information. Previous experience operating motorized mowers and other motorized equipment including skip loaders, tractors, dump trucks and forklift.

Position works outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. May be required to work overtime to complete assignments. Position carries a master key. Position requires fingerprinting and a criminal background check. Walking on uneven ground.
