Tenure-track Assistant Professor Position

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, in the broadly defined area of synthesis and processing of materials, with an expected start date of July 1, 2021. The area of interest includes, but is not limited to, the development of hybrid composite materials, coating systems, devices with 3D architectures, metamaterials and approaches to bioinspired materials that exploit the integration of self-assembly, novel materials chemistry and additive manufacturing. Outstanding candidates should demonstrate the potential to build a world-class research program in materials science and engineering with a focus on synthesis and processing of materials and a commitment to education and mentorship of students, to equity and inclusion, and to service to the campus and the materials science and engineering profession worldwide.

A PhD (or equivalent international degree) or being enrolled in PhD (or equivalent international degree) granting program at the time of application is required. Preferred qualifications: it is expected that the candidate will demonstrate the potential for collaborative, interdisciplinary research within the broad material science and engineering community at UC Berkeley and will contribute to advancing the education mission of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering through teaching and student mentorship. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of (i) potential to build a world-class research program in materials science and engineering with a focus on synthesis and processing of -materials, (ii) commitment to education and mentorship of students, (iii) commitment to equity and inclusion, and (iv) commitment to service to the campus and the materials science and engineering profession worldwide.
